An extraordinary collector's item with museum-worthy character: This armchair dates from 1925 and was designed by the Austrian architect and designer Hugo Gorge – executed by the renowned furniture store R. Lorenz Wien, where he served as artistic director during this time. Gorge was an important representative of early Viennese Modernism, a companion of Oskar Strnad, and a contemporary of Josef Frank. After the First World War, he devoted himself primarily to furniture and interior design. His designs are characterized by a clear, unadorned formal language and a fine sense of proportion – this armchair, too, combines precisely this design clarity with craftsmanship. An armchair that impresses not only with its provenance but also with its formal restraint – and at the same time, a valuable testimony to Austrian design history of the interwar period.
