This exceptional pair of armchairs originates from the Viennese Modernist movement and is attributed to Karl Hoffmann and Felix Augenfeld. The armchairs are documented in several historical contexts and can be clearly attributed, both stylistically and chronologically, to Vienna in the early 1930s. Particularly noteworthy is the depiction of an almost identical armchair in form and type in a historical interior photograph from the MAK (Museum of Applied Arts). The photograph shows the living room of Muriel Gardina and was designed by Karl Hoffmann and Felix Augenfeld in 1927. Furthermore, comparable armchairs by Otto Prutscher from 1930 are documented, which further supports the dating and design significance of this form. The clean lines, balanced proportions, and confident presence make these armchairs a compelling example of the interplay between architecture, furniture design, and interior design of that era. They are suitable both for a historically informed interior and for creating an exciting contrast in contemporary spaces.
