This large arc floor lamp from the 1970s combines a sweeping chrome arc with a solid travertine base and a spherical shade. Despite its considerable size, its unusually slender construction gives the lamp a light, almost floating appearance.
The chrome-plated metal arc extends and retracts telescopically, allowing the lamp’s reach to be adjusted to suit different room layouts. The travertine base provides a deliberate counterpoint: its natural, porous surface contrasts with the gleaming chrome while also providing the stability required by the cantilevered design.
The lamp’s design reflects the experimental forms of Italian lighting design in the 1970s. In particular, the combination of a technical-looking construction and a sculptural approach to space recalls lighting designs by Goffredo Reggiani.
Thanks to its adjustable reach, this floor lamp is especially well suited as a light source beside a seating area or dining table. Its generous arc allows it to illuminate from above without requiring a ceiling connection directly over the desired area.
